CRA DRILLS

BallparkA drill is a coordinated, supervised activity usually employed to test a single specific operation or function in a single agency. Drills are commonly used to provide training in the use of new equipment, to develop or test new policies or procedures, or to practice and maintain current skills.

 Typical attributes include:

  • A narrow focus, measured against established standards

  • Instant feedback

  • Realistic environment

  • Performance in isolation

  • Performance as a subset of full-scale exercises (FSEs)

CRA has incorporated drills as intermediate steps to build upon lessons learned from discussion-based exercises. Our personnel are all Homeland Security Exercise Evaluated Program (HSEEP) certified, and field-trained professionals who regard quality customer service as their top priority.

In April of 2004, CRA conducted a successful drill with the Baltimore Orioles organization, providing a structure on which to evaluate and examine evacuation procedures for Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

State Health & Human Services Commissioner John Stephen called
the
flu clinic drills a success.

Working with New Hampshire, CRA provided a drill designed to test the state’s handling of an avian flu pandemic. Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center physician and emergency planning consultant Robert Gougelet said he will recommend the state hold emergency response drills like this every year.

The drill also highlighted vital issues that needed to be addressed, such as whether police have the authority to detain and isolate people involuntarily and whether emergency responders have the vaccinations, equipment and training needed to handle infected people.
