AMTRAK EMPLOYEE SECURITY AWARENESS TRAINING

CRA, Inc. trained 14,000 Amtrak rail operations employees nationwide. Beginning in January 2007 and ending in February 2008, the instructor-led classes focused on terrorist threat awareness, identification of suspicious objects and/or activities and awareness and identification of possible improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Detailed information drawn from worldwide terrorist attacks, including the the rail attacks in London, Mumbai, and Madrid informed the training. CRA's multimedia course provided Amtrak employees with a greater awareness of rail threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities as well as the terrorist organizations which perpetrated the attacks.

CRA’s expert course developers and subject matter experts in the fields of counter-terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, designed the training based on the needs assessment and focus group sessions conducted by CRA with Amtrak officials and staff. CRA customized the curriculum to address the range of staff positions and responsibilities among Amtrak operations employees.

CRA, Inc. implemented a regional geographic approach in order to provide nationwide delivery of CRA's Employee Security Awareness Training course. To accommodate employees’ staggered schedules and minimize their time away from work, a CRA trainer was assigned to every major Amtrak operation across the Nation.

CRA's professional and expert trainers delivered an average of six courses per week across the country, meshing Amtrak’s current block and training camps with the 4-hour course delivery. A total of 860 training sessions were conducted between January 2007 and February 2008 with the project being completed 2 months early as well as providing an additional 37 sessions. The curriculum was very well received by both Amtrak management and participants.

During the training, students handled mock-ups of packages and IED devices terrorists might use to attack a train or a passenger area. CRA's realistic training imparted a keen awareness of the potential threat and provided direction as to how best to deal with these threats when encountered.

 

 

 

I felt the part about identifying terrorist activities was very important because we hear so much misinformation about 'profiling'.
