Space Weather Threats
Under the leadership of Dave Hunt, Director of Technical Assistance and Planning, CRA supported the National Defense University (NDU) Conference on Severe Space Weather Threats to the U.S. Electrical Grids which occurred on October 3-6, 2011. The conference was held in conjunction with the U.S. Congressional Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Caucus. Through the planning of the conference, CRA was pleased to work with the congressional staff of Representative Trent Franks and Representative Roscoe Bartlett (co-chairs of the EMP Caucus).
In conjunction with the NDU conference, CRA also provided all the exercise design and development support for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Planning Workshop on October 4, 2011, hosted at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
These events served as a forum for key discussions between Federal, State, and local agencies to prepare for nationwide infrastructure collapse due to catastrophic space weather and EMP-related threats.
