This Month in CRA History….
Amtrak Employee Security and Terrorism Awareness Training
In January 2007, CRA began the daunting year-long task of designing and conducting a customized Employee Security and Terrorism Awareness Training program for more than 14,000 Amtrak personnel nationwide. By working in close partnership with Amtrak police, security, and line officials, CRA’s trainers delivered nearly 900 training classes between January and November 2007. The training covered the nature of the terrorist threat to transit systems, as well as indicators of terrorist activity and the steps employees should take when observing and reporting suspicious activity or objects. By all accounts, CRA’s training was of the highest quality and well-received by line employees and Amtrak management.
“The course was very informative and opens your eyes to a lot of things that you would have walked by before taking the class.”
“ . . . I never realized how much of a threat terrorism can be to Amtrak.”
“The instructor has done the walk . . . pretty eye opening.”
“Not only can I apply these methods to my job but also outside of my job. The whole course was valuable. Everything was great!”
“Your group [CRA] has been absolutely great in being available, reachable, cooperative, and responsive to our needs. The scope of the work [of the Amtrak Employee Security Awareness Training] given the times, locations, and nationwide parameters would seem at times to be impossible. However your group has prevailed and over 7,000 employees have been trained to date.” – Inspector, Amtrak Police Department
